TWENTY SIX TRAVEL LESSONS

FROM A twenty six YEAR OLD

Back in January I celebrated another year around the sun.

I have been so grateful and lucky to have spent most of twenties travelling the world, my first solo travel experience being back in 2019 to La Rochelle, France.

This postcard is a list of twenty six of the lessons I have learned travelling. if even one of these lands for you then my job here will have been well fulfilled.

26 travel Lessons you need to know

  1. Always take Live Photos – or lots of videos if you don’t have Live Photos
  2. The unexpected destinations can often turn out to be the best
  3. Do what would make 10 year old giggle and get excited about
  4. No one cares what you wear backpacking
  5. But do make sure to have one formal fit with you for unexpected dinners
  6. Do the sights that you want to do and don’t compromise on your desires
  7. But be sure to leave some blank space for memories with new people
  8. Stop feeling bad about taking a day to rest whilst travelling
  9. Better yet, plan slow days into your itineraries if they are normally fast paced
  10. You will grow uncomfortably fast whilst travelling – embrace it
  11. This isn’t a dress rehearsal. This is it, so ditch the travel guilt
  12. You will impact so many people without knowing it
  13. Bring cards with you. Someone will always ask if anyone has cards
  14. You will never have these opportunities again at the age you are right now
  15. Make music playlists for each trip as you know, music holds memories
  16. You will cry, and you will miss home. And that is more than okay
  17. Your travel plans will change, so pack extra chargers and snacks
  18. You will fall for someone, and little pieces of them will weave themselves into your travel tapestry – it’s simple unavoidable
  19. Buy trinkets to decorate your future home
  20. Buy yourself flowers for the moment
  21. Write letters and postcards home to romanticise the hardships of being apart
  22. You will get stressed in an airport at least more than once
  23. Follow your gut over feeling fomo, it will pass
  24. Practice gratitude even in the hardest moments
  25. Feeling like life is going way to fast is so, so normal
  26. There will become a time where you won’t be able to travel. So do it now.
