THE ULTIMATE DAYTRIP GAME PLAN

FOR THE BEST MEMORIES

Ever had those day trips that don’t quite hit in the way you wanted them to?

Today, I’m going to share with you my ultimate daytrip game plan so you can make the best memories.

HOW TO PICK YOUR NEXT DAYTRIP

First up, what do you want to achieve from your next daytrip?

✈️ Is it taking back control of your life and making sure that you make memories?
✈️ Is it wanderlust for new places?
✈️ Or is it a mission to yourself to step out of your comfort zone?

Whatever the motive, knowing what you want from a daytrip will help you plan for the day that you want, so that you’re not just winging it.

SPONTANEITY OR PLANNING?

Next question, is planning better than spontaneous trips?

Here’s my take 👀

Planning a daytrip can allow you to make sure you visit particular places of interest and avoids that ambling round aimlessly trap.

But spontaneity can offer up experiences you may not have found if you’d planned your whole day.

Again, it depends why you’re planning a daytrip. If it’s to see the city, planning one to three main things to do will help you keep structure and make the most of our your day.

But if you’re going as a solo trip, or to get out of your hometown for a bit even just for the day, something leaving white space in the day can offer up the best opportunities.

Planning: For smaller cities or towns, if you’re travelling abroad, or if multiple people are coming from different places to meet in the middle.

Spontaneity: For bigger cities, in the same country or in a country abroad that you’ve been to before. Spontaneity is also great if you’re travelling solo and want to try something new.

The choice is yours…

things to pack

When you’re planning a daytrip, the most important thing you have to take is…

Comfortable shoes 👟

There’s nothing worse than clocking up your 20K steps in shoes that start making you uncomfortable. At least bring a comfortable change of shoes if you want a heel.

Other things to remember:

📝 A water bottle
📝 Snacks
📝 Portable charger/power bank
📝 Comfortable backpack or tote
📝 Extra layers/umbrella

Whether you're solo or with friends

If you’re with friends:

⚖️ Decide on a joint interest – nature, adventure, culture, food, music, etc.
⚖️ Leave some flexibility for delays
⚖️ Throw in a class – cooking, painting, dancing, or something individual to the city you’re visiting

If you’re solo:

🤝 Find a free walking tour around the city
🤝 Bookstores that double as cafes? Yes please!
🤝 Go to a live music show or a matinee show
🤝 Do a colour walk and take photos of everything that’s your chosen colour

EXTRAS FOR YOUR ADVENTURE

You’re all set! You’ve got everything you need for the ultimate daytrip game plan, but just a few extras to consider:

Weather/Season:
Consider what time of the year you are visiting, particular if you are travelling abroad

Finances/Budget:
It’s important to make sure your daytrip fits in with your current budget. We’re all at different stages of life and money journeys. Besides, you can have fun on a budget, sometimes more.

I’d love to see your daytrip adventures, so make sure to tag @thatgirladventures with your photos!
